Tailor Md Rapi Musa, 52, who provides jeans alteration services, said business at his shop has dropped by 70%.

“I received a lot of alteration orders in previous years to the point that I had to stay at my shop until 2am to complete the work. Another trader, Busra Rshidin, 50, who runs a bundle shop selling cheap T-shirts and jeans, has the same problem. “This is the first time I am experiencing such slow sales after being in this business for 20 years now.“I think times are hard so people do not want to spend much on non-food essentials,” he said.“Many traders along my row of shops who are selling appliances, shoes, clothes and other items have remained closed.“Many of us here are hoping that times will improve soon,” he added.
