Amazon's Prime Air drone delivery team is taking steps to go from "an R&D posture to a more structured aerospace program," according to its new leader David Carbon.
Still, Prime Air is dealing with a lot of challenges as it looks to get its service launched as soon as possible.Amazon's Prime Air drone delivery team is now under more pressure to get its service up and running,That means most of its resources are now dedicated to the immediate launch of the program, instead of long-term research projects that could take years to materialize.
"While today we are still working through many of the details associated with our service launch and how we will structure to achieve it, we will not stop or reduce our focus on research, science, development, and product design," Carbon wrote.that the team is clearly cutting back on longer-term projects that may or may not improve the drone's performance, as it's laser-focused on speeding up the program's official launch.
It's certainly been a busy few weeks. As a team, we have continued to drive toward our midyear STeam goal despite challenges. I have been absolutely thrilled with the focus the entire Prime Air Team has had on ensuring we take the right actions to assure safety and reliability while continuing to progress towards our goals.
