Facebook is a massively efficient channel for many businesses, and experts say cutting out the platform can be a major sacrifice, especially those that rely on it to bring in new customers. That makes joining the boycott a difficult question for some businesses.

by pausing spending on all social media), some have speculated why some companies have yet to press pause. Others have taken a more cynical view, saying that joining the boycott is simply providing cover for broader marketing cost-cutting associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

"The more dependent a brand is on direct response, the greater the sacrifice of getting off of Facebook," she said, referring to direct response advertising, which includes methods that drive consumers to take an immediate action, like download an app or buy something from an e-commerce site.

He added that he believed CEOs that want to stop subsidizing hateful content with their ads are trying to balance that moral question with business imperatives. As opposed to larger companies that might be using Facebook for more brand messaging, it is a more difficult ask for companies that dump cash into the platform for customer acquisition to pull their ads, Gahan said.

They’re also using it as a convenient excuse to shave their marketing spend.

They’re not taking a stand. They’re jumping off a cliff with the other lemmings.

Thank you kindly for the opportunity to contribute to this article. It's a complicated issue and small businesses need to make their own decisions right for them. 🤔

I was thinking that they just wanted a face saving way to tell the public that they would cut back on spending

CNBC content is pure corporate propaganda.

Please post a list of companies boycotting Facebook I will gladly purchase products from them even though I may not even need the product

Do they? Or are they choosing not to spend additional dollars on ads considering the economic downturn?

'Facebook is a massively efficient channel'? How? Only if readers are massively inefficient with their screen space.

What risk to their bottom line. Brands are hemorrhaging money. Marketing dollars are the first to be scaled back. Everyone has felt the ad media crunch. Think people are just desperate to spend right now. You’re wrong.

That would be great if we could have alternatives with Facebook features included except better, like my product I can't bring to market because the competition keeps criminally competing with me and the government won't work for me against them; It's called EvidenceBook.

Money over morality, eh? At least these companies know what really matters. Zuckerberg is a douchebag that started Facebook to value women as doable based solely on the appearance of their faces hence the name

It’s just a stunt for a few weeks. FB ads are the most valuable and they know that.

❤😍

Budget trimming via a mask of social “concern”

Do not fuck with cities.

Did Facebook write this headline?

It is not about taking a stand against racism. It is about not having controversial posts on the platform so that these companies don't have to risk the wrath of BLM for placing ads there.

We'll see. And they have to cut expenses.

Oh they're so Brave..

Nothing like taking a stand to push a false narrative
