After Elon Musk criticized Bernie Sanders' brand of socialism, Sanders took him to task for taking billions of dollars in government support

an article from The Los Angeles Times that detailed the assistance Musk and his companies have received"Every time Elon Musk pokes fun at government assistance for the 99%, remember that he would be worth nothing without $4.9 billion in corporate welfare," Sanders wrote. "Oh, Elon just l-o-v-e-s corporate socialism for himself, rugged capitalism for everyone else.

Millions of US residents have lost their health coverage during the pandemic after losing their jobs. Even those with insurance have sometimes faced steep bills after contracting the coronavirus. The co-sponsors estimated that those billionaires had seen their wealth increase by $731.8 billion between March 18 and Aug. 5. Musk, according to a fact sheet from them, had seen his own wealth go from $24.6 billion to $70.5 billion. He would face a tax bill of $27.5 billion under the measure

Much of the wealth gains cited by the bill's sponsors are a result of soaring prices. In order to pay such tax bills, the billionaires would almost certainly have to sell large numbers of shares which could undermine their companies' stock prices — and their wealth.Contact Troy Wolverton via email at twolverton@businessinsider.com, message him on Twitter

the beef shows no signs of slowing down

It's easier to become a billionaire when someone is giving you money.

He took support to progress a space agency that the government failed to keep going. He isn't taking handouts with nothing in return.

Lol my reaction when I read this

Those who say socialism is terrible are getting the most from government, and are not afraid to take $ billions. 2020worstyear GreenNewDeal greedy AOC brickwallisoverparty

Bernie helps to create subsidies for “billionaires” to produce green energy and vehicles, a company takes on that challenge, than Bernie calls it welfare.

Both are cherry pickers socialists.

Socialim is thrash if you like it come to live to South America you will understand

In 50 years who most likely will be remembered - Sanders or Musk? A great example of when a phony useless bureaucrat who created nothing in his life tries to be even with the most prominent innovator of all time.

fadli_tamam ❤ Bernie Sanders from Indonesia

Love you Bernie. Thank you so much for cutting through the crap.

🗣ELON MUSK DID NOT START TESLA. HE BOUGHT IT FROM SOMEONE ELSE

I'd first like Bernie to return the houses he magically gained after the 2016 election and then read the terms for that government support. Which went to his business not into his pocket.

Well done BernieSanders. elonmusk is getting to big for his britches as my grandma would say. telsa was partially created by the government. Never forget that Sir Musk!

I'm sorry, did Bernie just shoot us into space? Did Bernie start, maintain, and create a thriving company, Telsa, in one of the most difficult industries to break into? Does Bernie employ workers and produce tangible value to the market? Elon is leagues beyond Bernie in every way

no one can do anything it seems, without fed, state, city money

On whose backs did the family money come from? Asking for a friend.

elonmusk burn.

Go Bernie!

'Business' Insider. Owned by JeffBezos writes clickbait crap like this because... clickbait. How bout Elon Musk was the only person to take that subsidy (offered to many green energy entrepreneurs) and actually make a successful American company that employs tens of thousands.

BernieSanders is a disgrace to the human race

I’m out 2 jobs I clean buildings everyday at both jobs and I barely make ends for myself much less for my sister if anyone who can help with even anything $1 we would appreciate it so much this Virus really has me worried thanks & stay safe. Venmo or Cashapp MattMartins147

FakeNews snopes it was a loan for Tesla, not for Elon, and not welfare, and I believe it was paid back with interest and that Ford still hasn’t paid back their loan. Citizens don’t pay back welfare 😆

hmmm!!!
