The Canadian restaurant industry could lose up to $20 billion in revenue in the next year, thanks, in large part, to the number of workers who plan to telecommute, according to a new report.

TORONTO -- The Canadian restaurant industry could lose up to $20 billion in revenue in the next year, thanks in large part to the number of workers who plan to telecommute,For the research, a team from the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University, in partnership with the app Caddle, surveyed 10,851 Canadians at the end of July on their future work plans and food expenses.

When asked about their employers’ intentions, 22 per cent of respondents said their companies plan to let people work from home more often, with the highest rate in Quebec. Charlebois said this number could have a significant impact on restaurants located in downtown urban cores, if more and more workers move to suburban and rural communities.

“It could be an opportunity for restaurant operations to save some money, because it actually does cost less to actually run an establishment outside downtown, in suburbia or even rural communities,” he offered. “We were comfortable going with these numbers today because we feel that's exactly what's going to happen at the very least. This is a very strict minimum,” he said. “We do consider these estimates to be conservative.”

Next up: if Canadians want to enjoy restaurants in the future we must allow the government to bail them out in exchange for a large share in the business. Restaurants can pay back the bail out back via profit transfers.

Mostly due to Canada collapsing the economy.

michael_house9 Oh I’m sure it’ll be much worse

No problem right JustinTrudeau fordnation JohnTory JimWatsonOttawa ?

But mainly due to too many restaurants.

Thank the Liberal party of Canada for this. No masks through the whole pandemic. Didnt close borders early. Failed international modelling. LeaderlessLiberals

...

That’s true I never thought about that

It's a tough business. If you don't have volume, it's a very narrow profit margin...

All because of the msm and bullshit super flu...oh yeah and China.

Home cooked Immunity Food will become the best seller.

You did that CTV along with your media Comrades. Are you proud of that?

It makes perfect sense for restaurants that are located near office towers when the employees no longer have to work from their offices🤷‍♂️ Restaurant should relocate out of the downtown core and draw patrons based on the quality and uniqueness of their food!!

Maybe the restaurant business needs to slim down and lose excess businesses!

I guessing health will improve if more people avoid the salt and grease from many workplace lunchtime offerings

Translation: Exploitative industry that specializes in selling nearly-expired trash food products to unaware individuals is losing money after people realized they can eat cheaper and healthier at home.
