My boyfriend and I first began meeting with our couples therapist in January 2020. I found her through the "Find A Therapist" function on, searching for someone walkable from our apartment who also worked on a sliding scale.
The fit was a good one, but unfortunately, all her sliding-scale slots were full, so a 50-minute session was going to run us $225. To make that number fit into our budget, we decided to meet every other week, and to put our name on the waitlist in the meantime.Then, just days after our first meeting, my boyfriend was laid off from his job. We briefly considered bailing on therapy, but we had such a great experience in our first session that we decided to make it work.
