Australia’s first significant COVID-19 outbreak since the disease ravaged Victoria has exposed the nation’s patchwork border policies. covid19 coronavirus borders federation

that to keep borders open, the Federal Government should abandon the planned final step of its reopening framework, which would give the green light by Christmas to large gatherings and a mass return to workplaces. Such a major reopening would encourage complacency, the medical group said.

Australian Industry Group chief executive Innes Willox said the uncertainty of ad hoc border policies was bad for business investment and the national recovery. He urged the Morrison government to "knock heads together" until a national agreement was reached. Adelaide jeweller Albert Bensimon was on a Qantas flight from Adelaide to Perth when West Australian Premier Mark McGowan announced a resumption of quarantine for South Australian travellers. Sad indeed for the businesses.. borders closure.. ok.. but these community places, bars should be penalised for ignoring simple etiquette around pandemic..

Is their such a thing called federation anyway

You watch the COVID19Vic good work get blown away . I am in QLD was hoping to see family by Xmas I think the SA border being open will come back to bite Victoria it will give Qld reason to stay closed to Vics , theheraldsun

“The framework for federation is falling apart before our eyes and it seems to be every state for themselves,' is a very alarmist statement

That's what happens when you have a federal govt missing in action - well done to all States, lifting against the leaners

I hate to tell you this, but due to the massive lack of leadership and competence at the federal level, *it is every state for themselves*. Good luck trying to knock heads together, no one is listening because they all saw what the feds did to Victoria.

Ravaged...? A bunch of old people that were going to die anyway... Died. The only thing to ravage the state was the government and that sociopath Andrews.
