Covid-19 is changing an entrenched aspect of car shopping in America: finding your new ride on the lot and driving it home that day

For months, dealer stocks have been running about 25% thinner than normal, a hangover effect from two months of pandemic-related factory closures last spring.

Waiting for crappy electronic cars forced on us that noone wants.

I, on the other hand, am still getting lots of value out of my 1999 Ford Taurus that I bought with just over a hundred thousand miles on it years ago. I've saved, at least, the cost of a new car (not including taxes, tags, insurance, etc. costs). Retirement fund is looking good.

anti-Marxismlist! On my opinion, the human society is running on these: 1 technology define theoretical economic aggregate 2 labour define gross economy 3 finance system define distribution of wealth from gross economy

I always intend to order my new car to spec from the factory anyway three months ahead of time. For those of us who intend to keep a car 15+ years it’s not worth settling for colour/options we don’t want just because that’s what’s on the lot.

Less options for consumer's. More inventory for sellers. Same expensive price.

Yeah right, just wait until the dealership across the street can get you in a new car the same day! Who do you think I’m taking my business to, the dealer that I have to wait weeks for, or the dealer that provides me my instant gratification? This isn’t going to last!

Less inventory means less less overhead... probably makes sense

This is true, but I found the car I wanted and got a great deal on it.
