The tobacco industry scored a win Friday after a California law banning the sale of flavored tobacco qualified for the November 2022 ballot, placing the law, which was heralded by anti-vaping advocates, on hold until then.... [+]the ban into law last year in an effort to discourage kids and teens who typically buy fruity or dessert flavors from vaping.

The law bans retailers from selling flavored tobacco, including menthol, and imposes a $250 fine for each violation, but there is an exception for hookah, loose leaf tobacco and premium cigars.by tobacco giants Philip Morris USA and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, gathered enough signatures to put a referendum on the ballot, meaning that voters will ultimately decide whether the state will ban flavored tobacco.

The law was set to take effect on January 1, but will be on hold until the results of the November 2022 election.Newsom last year called the effort to overturn the ban “Big Tobacco’s latest attempt to profit at the expense of our kids’ health,”
