TEG CEO Geoff Jones says the past year has been “incredibly tough” for the live entertainment industry and it is “vitally important” the government provides targeted support when JobKeeper ends.

“In March last year we lost 97 per cent of our revenue, even now today nearly a year on, we’ve still lost nearly 80 per cent of our revenue,” he said. “Some of our promoting companies literally have not made a dollar or brought a dollar in because we’ve been unable to tour for all that time. “There’s great spirit in the entertainment industry and people love what they do. By and large people are hanging in there, but it’s been incredibly tough”.

Mr Jones said those who work in live entertainment sometimes feel like they’re left out or forgotten in discussions about suffering industries, but there are thousands of workers who need support. “There’s glimmers of light with the vaccine … and our industry has been supportive of what the federal government have done. JobKeeper has been a godsend.
