The federal government is spending millions of dollars on consultants to advise on how to subsidise the multi-billion-dollar gas industry, despite it employing just 0.2 per cent of the Australian workforce, according to tender documents and ABC sources.

Tender documents show the federal government allocated more than $9 million to pay for private consultants

In four tenders since September last year, the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources engaged the BCG to advise on "gas modelling", "business delivery" and "infrastructure". Oil and Gas industry have traditionally employed less people directly and more indirectly so these figures are quite misleading. E.g. A refinery has 1000 direct employess but 4000 indirect for plant maintenance, fabrication, projects, services, catering, admin, transport etc.

If it can't pay for its self and its taxes shut it down

George_Roberts MarkOgge No consultant can undo the damage done to the Australian economy by exporting LNG instead of using it domestically with secondary economic and employment benefits for a much longer time. Gas production is peaking

Classic ABC rubbish journalism. No mention of the enormous export earnings and taxes paid by the Industry...

Meanwhile, even the largest fossil fuel economies see the future. AngusTaylorMP is locking in a stranded high emissions Australia.

Not good, but countless millions are going to renewables under multiple programs. Stop campaigning ABC.

Boo HISS! Incompetent government!
