The owner of Vancouver’s Corduroy Lounge, which was shut down for flagrantly ignoring provincial health orders, held a rally outside the restaurant Friday.

In social media posts, Rebecca Matthews said the rally’s goal is to raise awareness of the “incredible harm” provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s health orders have had on small businesses.

In late March, Henry issued an order closing down indoor dining at restaurants as part of a slew of “circuit breaker” measures to curb rising case numbers; the measures have since been extended until after the Victoria Day long weekend. Takeout orders and patio dining are still allowed.. A widely shared video posted on social media on April 3 showed Vancouver Coastal Health inspectors giving Matthews a closure notice as patrons chanted “get out.

Matthews claims to be taking a stand for small businesses, but Ian Tostenson, president of the B.C. Restaurant and Food Services Association, said her stance doesn’t reflect the majority of the industry, which is following the rules despite taking a revenue hit.

💰🤑'B.C. has launched a $50-million circuit breaker relief program that offers grants of up to $10,000 for restaurants, bars, breweries, wineries, gyms and fitness studios affected by the health orders. Businesses that have violated public health orders are not eligible.'😝

What makes you so entitled that you think laws do not pertain to you? I am personally related to healthcare workers and they are putting their lives at risk, their families at risk. You and your ignorant supporters are basically spitting in their faces. BoycottCorduroy

I’ll never spend a cent there as long as she’s the owner.

Shut. Them. Down.

Everyone has a right to earn a living. Not just the free riders that work from home

Ryu_Zoku The restaurants that will survive were good, pre-pandemic. They’re trying new things, “pivoting” etc. The places that will close, pre-pandemic were mediocre at best and are lazy. Now they have covidbc to blame for their failure. SinkOrSwim

Is she counting on the 17 yahoo’s currently supporting her to sustain her business post pandemic? Because I’m fairly certain the rest of us are going to avoid her establishment like the .... well..... you know the rest.

Catch the culprits and fine them heavily, jail time if possible! Pardon me, bloody selfish, stupid creatures!

It’s another example of self entitlement at the expense of others ... comply or lose your license ...

thank you to them. order will extend again :)

Dumb move. They will be boycotted when things go back to normal. Doubt those dozens of protestors will keep them afloat once the pandemic is over.

That’s Kits for you.

So she was offered help, but turned it down.

Already didn't like that restaurant before, reading all this makes me like it even less.
