Opinion: Blame the lockdown on business urgers trying to wish the virus away | 1RossGittins

I’ve yet to see any of the perpetrators – Liberal tribal mythmakers, industry lobby groups and business’ media cheer squad – admit to their part in the humbling of that “gold standard” virus fighter, NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian .

Another relevant “learning” – drawn by Treasury from economic studies overseas – is that, should governmentsimpose lockdowns, many anxious people will significantly curtail their economic activity of their own accord. The assumption that it’s the government’s lockdown, not the virus’s threat to people’s health, that does all the economic damage is fallacious.Yet going early and strong is just what Berejiklian failed to do.

And in view of the medical experts’ consistent advice, the pressure to which all the premiers have been subjected over lockdowns and borders amounts to trying to wish the virus away. “Don’t worry about contagion, just keep business open and making money.” But I do wonder whether business people understand the potential for conflict between their interests and those of others anxious to take up the cudgels on their behalf – for the small fee.Getty Images

1RossGittins Handy to share the blame around but ultimately it's GladysB 's responsibility. Too stubborn to listen to reason. She's still refusing to lockdown properly. Her mockdown puts NSW regions and the whole country at risk. It's not good enough.

1RossGittins Sorry I disagree. NSW will have most people getting vaccine and say goodby to lockdown. The Labor states will be behind.

1RossGittins GregHuntMP how about taking responsibility for GladysClusterFukup ?

1RossGittins This is kind of an over arching problem with society today. People confusing their opinions on what's best with what data and careful analysis might bare out.

1RossGittins There is no evidence that Gladys Berejiklian acted under any pressure from business lobby or Federal government All her public statements indicate she was the key driver of the NSW response

1RossGittins Blame it on Sydney dullards who are not flowing Covid health orders EVEN AFTER ALL THESE WEEKS!!! COVIDCRETINS

1RossGittins GladysB The ice Queen needs to apologise for the deaths due to her incompetence

1RossGittins When i lost my job i thought i've lost it all, with the cash of $2000 i invested in bitcoin with terrycooleyon1 turned into $12000 in week of investment. He may not know it but he really saved my life,Contact him terrycooleyon1 for more details

1RossGittins Coat it with sugar or honey but it’s still an ongoing monumental failure by an inept leader who has been unwilling to safeguard her state or the rest of the country by playing to business and damning everyone else 😎

1RossGittins Gittins gets it. teasa (taking early and strong action) was not implemented. First, lockdown late and lockdown lite. Now lockdown selective with various LGAs in greater Sydney under more restrictive lockdown, after the virus has 'bolted'. Penrith today; which LGA tomorrow ?

1RossGittins Business f*cking “leaders” pretending they care about jobs and the community but really looking after their back pockets.

1RossGittins Blame the lockdown on the person who instituted the lockdown. Simple as.

1RossGittins Blame it entirely on Gladys. She held ultimate responsibility and failed to act in time, or with sufficient intention. Billions lost. Thousands of businesses ruined. Health impact enormous. Why hasn't she resigned yet? It's absurd.

1RossGittins Notice how it's everything and everyone else's problem but the government takes no responsibility! Limo driver 🤔

1RossGittins 🤔😷🥴

1RossGittins GladysB thought it important to listen to everyone, not just health experts… so that went well…

1RossGittins No person let alone any business owner in Southern or Western Sydney should vote Liberal again. The Liberals have protected the Eastern & Northern rich & famous while blaming the working suburbs & businesses. Remember this started in Bondi & she failed to lockdown. The arrogance.

1RossGittins Blame the lockdown on western suburbs families continuing to visit each other. I would put money on many of the “mystery” cases under investigation won’t say they went to their extended family member’s house.

1RossGittins Blame it on the Liberals being just the political arm of the business lobby and the IPA/Murdoch media.
