The Covid-19 pandemic has pushed children's mental health to crisis levels. Yet parents often struggle to find providers and face long wait times when seeking help. Founded by a mother-daughter duo, Little Otter harnesses tech to connect families with mental health professionals and track progress.

Cofounder and Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Helen Egger is a pioneer in the field of child psychiatry, with over 30 years of clinical and academic experience. “I knew that the children’s mental health crisis couldn’t be solved just by training more providers,” she says. “We need to bring digital innovation and data science together with child mental health.

CEO and cofounder Rebecca Egger has more than 10 years of experience working in medical technology, specializing in product design. “In the beginning, I came on board with Little Otter only as a consultant to help my mom with her new project, and put the product and engineering chops from my jobs at Palantir and the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative to work. However, after building the first pitch deck, I knew I had to help.

Little Otter also offers families valuable tools to assist in managing their children’s mental health. A tantrum assessment helps parents learn whether or not they should worry about their child’s temper tantrums. A back-to-school toolkit gives parents a personalized report and actionable tips on how to navigate the new school year. A holiday toolkit offers parents advice on how to navigate holiday related anxiety and stress.

“Helping young people have the healthiest mental health possible so that they can pursue their life’s purpose is what Little Otter is all about,” says Rebecca Egger. “My advice to others searching for and pursuing a career with purpose is to prioritize mental health so that they can be healthy and happy, which allows us to be curious and discover our life’s passions.”
