The British oil giant British Petroleum said on Sunday that it would abandon its 19.75% stake in Russian oil company Rosneft, marking a costly move of sanctions in the energy field, as the Russian oil magnate accounts for around half of BP’s oil and gas reserves and a third of its production.
Brent crude for April delivery increased 3.06 dollars, or 3.1%, to close at 100.99 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange. “They could do a number of things, I think they’re now going to try to sell it to someone if they can. It’s a very difficult time to do that, it would be, I think it’s actually very risky for anybody to invest in Russia,” he continued.
