Fuels For Ireland has said the Taoiseach's comments on alleged profiteering were 'mistaken'

Image: Alamy Stock Photo Image: Alamy Stock Photo FINANCE MINISTER PASCHAL Donohoe says he “fully stands by” Taoiseach Micheál Martin’s comments on alleged fuel price gouging following denials from the industry.

The CCPC has said it is investigating a number of complaints about fuel pricing but industry representative body Fuels For Ireland has said price increases over the past few days were due to wholesale costs. In recent days, people have been sharing photos on social media, showing sharp, seemingly overnight increases in petrol and diesel prices at their local service stations ahead of the government’s well-flagged decision to cut excise duty on fuel.

This analysis also also provided by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan yesterday, who said there is likely to be a lag of a number of days when the Excise cut may be visible to consumers I think he’s got this one wrong. We are having a meeting this afternoon with a number of ministers and I do hope that it will better inform commentary from government and the policy that they develop in the in the coming days.

All those petrol stations that increased their prices by 20 cent prior to the government reduction should be named, shamed and boycotted by the public or at least their shops. Do not buy anything in their shops, hit them where it hurts!

Yeah, prices are only able to rise instantly!!! Not drop instantly.

Someone tell this man the prices are displayed on giant illuminated signs outside every fuel station. He seems unaware.

If certa can do it why not circle K?

There is no Shortage of Oil why are Prices going up?

Yeh and pigs can fly, the dogs in the street know there's profiteering.

It’s all a big f scam!

Ye see the thing Is, the proof says otherwise! Every single time there's an increase in the price of oil, the price at the pumps goes up almost immediately, when it falls, we're told we won't see any reduction for weeks!

The Taoiseach is correct in his statement and I welcome his comments it’s nice to highlight greed

They can go up instantly but take a while to come down when the duty is cut? Price gouging vultures. It would serve the ones abusing this right if people ONLY purchased the fuel they need and boycotted all the other items offered that can be got elsewhere.

Most large suppliers have at least a 30 day supply in storage. But yet, the pump prices increased immediately oil prices increased on world markets. But pump prices never fall immediately world market prices fall.

How was he mistaken!!! Can he explain how all the service stations across the country put up the price of fuel multiple times over the last few days and multiple times in a single day!!!

Tell that to circlekireland !!

But have they said how is OK for prices to rise right away?

Someone sneezing in Kremlin did not stop them increasing fuel prices overnight. Vultures.

MichealMartinTD hit fuelsforireland hard. They are the biggest crooks in this land of crooks. Brazen as brass to lie to the country and government. Must be punishment for this MichealMartinTD you’d punish the public.

To paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies, they would say that, wouldn't they?

Eh they went up overnight?

were they bollix robbing hoors
