Interfaith communities are celebrating the first Easter after the National State of Disaster has been lifted. In Kimberley, in the Northern Cape, congregants have flocked to different churches around the city to attend Friday’s church service.

The Progressive Bible Church decided to hold its Easter service outdoors. The congregants of the church flocked to the municipal park to worship.Reverend Samuel Jonas says holding their service outdoors is part of observing the COVID-19 regulations. “So now, we are outdoors, we are complying. We have social distancing here. We are just thankful to the Lord. We are not going against anything. We are compliant,” says Jonas.

Reverend Thabo Lang of African Evangelist United Church says he is happy that they can gather to celebrate this day. “We are very happy because the government has opened all doors.
