\u0027I very much regret that the jewel of our collective history, the Royal B.C. Museum, has become a political football,\u0027 Premier John Horgan said

Tourism Minister Melanie Mark said Thursday there has been interest in the business case since the government announced the $789-million rebuilding plan last Friday. The museum’s current building has been under partial closure since January, when management abruptly decided to dismantle its popular human history galleries in the name of “decolonizing” an attraction they said was shot through with “systemic racism.

Falcon called on the NDP to use the money earmarked for the project to help people pay their bills instead.Horgan defended his government’s decision to go ahead with the museum project Thursday. “It certainly was not our intention to appear to be tone deaf to the challenges British Columbians are facing. I know full well the impact of high gas prices on the stresses of meeting family budgets, the challenges of inflation right across the board.”Article contentMuseum executives and board members have been highlighting its problems not just to his government but previous ones too, he said.

Well DougRoutley17 already did in a statement to his constituents and I must say it's ridiculous. 'The $789 million is spread out over 8 years – meaning it is less than $100 million per year'. That makes it better?

The Bilbao cost $100million in 1991. The Richmond Oval cost $178million in 2006. It is 2022 so for $1billion we better get something like the Burj Kalifa.

There is no business case to justify this expense when so many other issues are still needing resources. The only thing this is for is reconciliation because the ndp already called the museum racist. Thats why its shutting down so early when the construction is so far away.

Waste of money.

A $ billion museum what a waste of BC taxpayer dollars! At this time we have more important issues like healthcare, homelessness, drug abuse, flood recovery, affordable housing, infrastructure to name a few.

It's not a political football it's a statement of indifference. Economy on the verge of collapse, every person in the province struggling and on the same day as this was announced, there's John advocating carpool while he rides around on my dime. Same day, same guy! It is vanity!
