Australia’s unprecedented energy market suspension could lift this week, but the national energy regulator is warning conditions surrounding the country’s power crisis are still “dynamic”. 7NEWS

While it was initially left unclear how long the measure would be in place, AEMO on Tuesday outlined guidelines for a “staged process” to resume regular market operations, flagging that the market will be monitored for at least 24 hours to judge whether the suspension can end.

“These criteria will ... give AEMO sufficient confidence that it can end the market suspension with minimal risk of the same conditions re-emerging in the very short term. The regulator said Australia’s electricity supply would be sufficient for Tuesday night, but warned conditions “remain dynamic” and still require the suspension to be in place. The government has this week reassured Australians that pressure is easing on the power grid, with Energy Minister Chris Bowen saying the worst is over.
