Canada must up incentives, charging capacity to meet EV goals: industry groups

Canadian governments must up incentives and increase the amount of charging infrastructure in the country to meet Ottawa’sThe federal government has pledged to mandate at least 20 per cent of new passenger vehicles sold in Canada be zero-emission vehicles by 2026. That will increase to at least 60 per cent by 2030, and to 100 per cent by 2035.

Ontario, which used to offer a rebate until Premier Doug Ford canned it in 2018, provides up to $1,000 incentive towards the purchase of a used EV and up to $1,000 for scrapping an old gas car. Kingston suggests provinces put in place their own rebate programs, or if they’re opposed to that, offer a tax credit like the U.S. does with its“At some point there will be a price parity; given the current environment, that price parity point has been kicked down the road a little bit further just because of the inflationary impact on vehicle prices right now.”EV charging stations are becoming more commonplace in Canadian public spaces, but there’s still much work to do, said Kingston.

And what about the infrastructure to charge these electric cars?

Electricity comes from NON GREEN technology! Wake up people! Mining, fracking, and dams are all bad for the environment! Mining lithium and making batteries are BAD for the environment! Stop the selling of lies to the public! I'm sick of this S%*!

You can't expect us to afford a electric car when inflation is soaring right? Absurdity? When reccesion comes gas prices will fall, it'd be a better idea buying a car when a reccesion hits. For now just save up.

The wait time is too LONG. With Hyundai, it's about a year. Per our local dealer. And even Tesla is having problems getting components to make enough batteries. They are 'stuck' at a Chinese port 'with no one to actually move it'

Have you checked the car prices ? It’s freaking so expensive. And our salaries are melting towards the inflation rate!! You have to make this your news !

Terrific 😀…….but who is going to fork out the electricity bill? In the long run…will the electric car be just as expensive to recharge? Plus they are definitely not safe in an accident. Also spontaneous combustion is also always fun…right?🤨

Can’t buy one, none in stock and can’t even order the one I want! Sticking with diesel for the next few years!

Why should I subsidize your car purchase? If you can’t afford it - don’t buy it.

It will never have a chance to happen.

Good

This is such a bad idea. Its really unbelievable that anyone supports this.

I want one. Looking to trade my gas in, just waiting for the right deal.

An objective with no plan or strategy, nice work PM.

'Canada must up incentives' Incentives: money from other Canadian taxpayers who can't afford an EV.

It's almost like the people have wanted them for years but politicians paid off by oil companies have held it back.

Build the damn cars!

Too bad the range and recharge speed is still pretty limited

Bring on the black outs.

No, it's not.

Nope. Not here in rural Saskatchewan.

Rolling blackouts coming to a city near you. 🙄

Ya. Sure and we all will hafta turn off out electricity so that TO will have power to charge their cars. 🤦🏻‍♀️

As Fiat Chrysler how their hybrid vehicles are selling. Their dealerships aren’t hard to find. Just look for a building surrounded by hundreds of monster pickups.

For the wealthy only

Hahah. No it’s not.

I can’t wait to see all the electric cars broken down on the side of the road in the harsh Canadian winter.
