SA carmakers face extinction unless they turn electric

The SA motor industry could follow its former Australian rival into oblivion if the government does not get an urgent grip on automotive policy, Naamsa CEO Mikel Mabasa said Monday.

He said policy does not take account of changes in the global motor industry, particularly the move to electric vehicles . Though the government’s automotive master plan, adopted in 2021, is intended to prepare the local industry for the future, its contents “do not keep pace with the rapid, ongoing revolutions in the global sector”...

SA is right at the bottom of Prosperity Index and very much comfortable at 85th courtesy of ANC. In the next 50 yrs will be competing with India as global emitters of climate pollution. Gov can’t even keep the lights on for 3 days and yet dreaming abt EV. Everyday is April fools

NAAMSA should consider that the country is in a continuous struggle for electricity!

Rubbish. Eskom ANC

Stage 6 load shedding electric cars, or cheap oil from Russia?

Great, this is the most protected industry, having no need for innovation or global competitiveness because of the massive government incentives they receive. With the vehicle producing capacity and sub contactors we shoukd be iwning the EV market.

With what electricity?

But they will need big generators to charge the batteries, because Eskom won't cope. To understand the impact, imagine all the fuel energy consumed replaced by electricity. Many, many more power stations required. But 30%'ers cannot do the math...

Somebody got a tender after eating up Western dictates – ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT ➡️ Motsepe-backed firm aims to become major electricity provider in South Africa

HOW FU€KING STUPID is this “warning” is given SA’s ROLLING BLACKOUT situation? Adopting so called “develop world” ORDERS on INFERIOR energy sources after they became SUPERPOWERS running for DECADES on the energy they suddenly decided is DIRTY, is committing national SUICIDE

Electric? 🤣 This is South Africa. They can’t even keep the fucking lights on here. You’re gonna have to plan when to drive and when to charge your electric vehicle around the loadshedding schedule 🤣

And, how will we charge them?

No, this is an agenda once again sold through the usual fear & worry bs.

nickhedley Well, you need electricity to maintain your electric car ….

No thanks.

Nah fam we still have to sort loadshedding out, thats like a lifetime away when that is sorted then we got 2 deal with getting our grid stable, lawd knows when that will be, GwedeMantashe1 is still feeding at that trough
