60% of universities in the UK now no longer put funds into fossil fuels

The University of Northampton has scrapped investment into the fossil fuel industry from today after pressure from students. Fossil fuel companies will no longer receive a share of the university's £100k investment portfolio.

Today's announcement makes UoN the 95th UK university to announce its divestment from the fossil fuel industry. like coal and crude oil.UoN made the announcement after recently updating its Responsible Investment Policy to exclude fossil fuel companies from its £100,000+ investment portfolio.

Student campaigners are now also targeting university careers services, calling on them to explicitly exclude oil, gas and mining companies from student recruitment opportunities. The campaign, Fossil Free Careers, has already won endorsement from student unions across the UK, as well as being backed by the National Union of Students.At NorthantsLive we're more than just news.
