Originally from Brazil, she moved to Ireland with her husband and daughter in 2016. Their son was born here a short time later. But in March this year they were told by their landlady that she is selling the property, and consequently they have to move out."I really don't know what to do if we don't find a home... So, if next month I don't have a house, what am I going to do? Am I going to have to put my kids in a tent in the park? What is my next move because I don't know.
"It's not that we don't have the money ... we don't have houses!... We made a lot of sacrifices, cutting a lot of things to try and find a place," she says. The key for the family is to stay close to where they're currently living because they want to be near their childrens' school. Their son has autism and adapting to new environments can be a challenge, Samantha says.Earlier this week, new figures showed the number of termination notices received by tenants in the first half of the year rose by 58%, compared with the latter half of 2021.
Almost 3,000 notices of termination were sent out in the first half of 2022, compared to over 1,800 in the final six months of 2021."I want to be clear, I'm not in any way angry with my landlady, she has the right to sell the house, it's her's.... but the situation is we don't have anywhere to go.""What are you hoping for?" I ask her.
Seriously where would she be living in Brazil...a Favela maybe? I can't see it making headlines if an Irish family were living in a box in Brazil. Shd came here hoping for more but things are bad here with housing and that's it. Soz.
It used to be if you didn't get your shit together you'd be living in a caravan at the side of a swamp. Now for today's youth it's a case of 'if you can get 30 to 40 grand together you may bag yourself a bargain and be able to live in a caravan at the side of a swamp'
I know what they can do Simple, go home to Brazil
€3500 budget and their struggling to find a place. What hope do any young grads have? Better off flying to London.
I don't think anyone cares
We have a problem with over demand unfortunately. It's sad for those affected. But our international humanitarian needs come before those already here. Rental homes are now needed for ukrainian and international protection applicants. They have greater need.
Any report on Irish people in a similar situation?
I know somewhere else they can live. Brazil.
You just love gaslighting the Irish people.
I know Irish people who are currently couch surfing because they cannot get a house. No sympathy for non Irish at the moment.
Boo hoo. I know 4 young Irish just started work in Dublin whose families have to spend every day house-hunting on their behalf as its a full time job. They're currently couch surfing. References are required to view a property, the second a place appears 1000s have viewed it.
Immigrant complaining about the issues she’s contributed to IrelandisFull
Took us months to find an apartment. My partners sister, husband and niece who all work, cant find one. Why am i supposed to feel sorry for this family? Because they complained to rte?
Blah blah blah blah
Sorry Ukrainians are the new Brazilians 🤷
The local authority should purchase this property and rent it to Samantha and her family at a reasonable rent. Housing supply is in decline and the population is growing. The state should purchase everything available to combat homelessness.
Not a peep about the Irish who are homeless and about to become....no headlines there
Plenty of accommodation in Brazil...
Tents will be on sale in a couple of weeks
HMcEntee must have the answer , she’s the one encouraging them to come in , regardless of a background check or progressive integration
They should give up they're jobs and become spongers like the thousands of freeloaders on the dole when employment is plentiful This country is a shithole
Hmmm it doesn’t say if they’re working or not?
Irish government is something else. 'Hey world come and live in Ireland', 2 minutes later , 'right now folks have ye no homes to go to.'
Welcome to the 21st century. Everyone is in the same predicament.
Just say your Ukrainian and you should get a house. That’s how the works now.
It's like there's not much housing available because the government decided to flood the country with a horde of immigrants and house them for free or something. Imagine if something crazy like that happened. Imagine the effects! Hehe! Crazy!
Thought we’d own nothing & be happy?
