Tuesday, August 23: On climate change, Pierre Poilievre, the Redblacks and Lisa LaFlamme. You can write to us too, at letters@ottawacitizen.com

Given the dire warnings issued by the International Panel on Climate Change regarding the accelerating pace of climate change, as evidenced by the more frequent incidence of increasingly extreme weather, investing further in the exploitation of fossil fuels is simply a very bad idea.

In addition, the “natural gas is better than coal” argument is greenwashing and simply the fossil fuel industry’s latest delay tactic. The author of this piece also conveniently ignores the strong opposition to the CGL pipeline by the Wet’suwet’en hereditary leadership.Article content Ignoring the security failure of allowing a militia extremist within reach of a major politician, instead of explicitly disavowing MacKenzie and right-wing extremism, Poilievre gave a lukewarm denouncement of racism before pivoting to a more lengthy criticism of Trudeau. Poilievre’s spokesman ignored the extremist connection entirely and instead attacked a news outlet for covering the story.

Do Canadians really want Poilievre, who refuses to condemn the growing tide of fascist and bigoted anti-democratic sentiments in Canada, leading our country?Obviously the Redblacks are not a very good football team. I, for one, will not shell out my meagre pension income for expensive tickets to sit in uncomfortable seats to watch clearly amateur football.
