could eventually pave the way for it to acquire small modular reactors from Britain for power generation as the two countries look to deepen co-operation on clean energy, UK Secretary for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan said.while visiting Sydney, Ms Trevelyan said the free trade agreement between Australia and the UK would also help boost the supply of skills and industrial base that Australia requires under the AUKUS program.

She denied momentum had been lost after the prime ministers who hammered out the final deal in 2021, Scott Morrison and Boris Johnson, had now seen their leadership careers end.Advertisement During her visit, Ms Trevelyan has visited Qantas executives to discuss the airline’s purchase of Rolls-Royce-powered long-haul aircraft, met electric vehicle businesses, attended a net zero emissions event and was a guest at the Business Council of Australia’s dinner on Wednesday night.

The Albanese government has dismissed nuclear power as too expensive but the Coalition under Peter Dutton is examining whether the ban on its use should be lifted. “That will require all sorts of things, for instance mobility agreements which are part of the FTA where people can move much more freely for business.”
