So Carbon Engineering captures CO2 from air with potassium hydroxide. Great. But then they precipitate the resulting potassium carbonate and calcinate it at 900 degrees to release the CO2? Then they combine this with hydrogen from electrolysis or gas to make a fuel that burns?
Each carbon dioxide molecule captured take an oxygen molecule out of circulation. Why should I feel comfortable with that?
There ways that exist now or will exist by the ingenuity man, other than keeping the developing countries poor.
Trees work better, produce oxygen and cool the earth with shade.
This is worth trying; depends on the carbon footprint getting to scale. We must do everything possible. Biggest easy targets: change meat farming practices, eliminate waste everywhere, starting in the US military, the biggest single polluter in the world. A Backlash Reckoning.
Have they considered photosynthesis?
How about Trees?
We need to stop destroying trees.
Ok great idea how about a similar unit with a different design to attach to each of the plants that spew out CO2? Keep going guys we need workable ways to compensate for what we do for the environment!
how did you know the climate we have now is the perfect climate for earth?
Trees, Plants & Oceans have worked better for a lot longer. ClimateChange
Why are we pursuing l this when the ozone opening is shrinking dramatically doesn't that mean the current state of regulations is working? Could you do a report on that NASA report from last year that shows the opening shrinking by thousands of kilometers?
Interesting but only makes sense if the CO2 extracted is greater than that produced.
This was a great story. Thanks!
In this thread are a summary of a few things I learned while reporting this story :
If we can extract h20, why not carbon? Brilliant
You left out fake news from bio
that's easy: plant trees. They drink CO2 and produce O2
CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IT YOU'RE RACIST REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
