A tradition that’s gone on for more than three decades, the Jacksonville Light Boat Parade, will take place Thanksgiving Weekend.
Running along the St. Johns River, the parade starts at 6 p.m. Saturday and will include multiple boat types with festive lights and a fireworks show at the conclusion of the event. Both the parade and fireworks show can be viewed from the north and south banks of the St. Johns River. The route begins at the Ford on Bay and goes along the Northbank Riverwalk to the Fuller Warren Bridge before making a loop and crossing to the Southbank, following the Southbank Riverwalk to the Duval County School Board Building.
“I know the entire community is going to get to enjoy this, as something that is so unique. And I think that's really unique and special and it's exciting,” said Ashtyn Brown, media support specialist with the City of Jacksonville, which helps to put on the parade.will also feature The 904 Pop Up from 4 to 9 p.m. at Riverfront Plaza. The 904 Pop Up will feature 15 food trucks, over 200 local creatives, makers, artists and more.
"The Light Boat Parade is kind of the kickoff to the holiday season in Jacksonville," Brown said."We wanted to do it after Thanksgiving when it's officially time to put up Christmas decorations and do so without judgement form those who want a little focus on Thanksgiving."
