Applications for U.S. unemployment benefits fell last week, consistent with a labor market that remains resilient

, a proxy for layoffs, decreased by 16,000 to a seasonally adjusted 225,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday. That was near the 2019 weekly average of around 218,000, when the labor market was also robust.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a reduction in jobless claims need to be coupled with a rise in the Labor Force participation rate for that stat to be interpreted as written? simply states that Jobless Claims are a 'proxy for layoffs', which is an oversimplification.
