It’s no longer enough for companies to pat themselves on the back for adding women to their boards. They need to prioritise getting in management roles that traditionally lead to CEO.

When Citigroup’s chief executive Jane Fraser pulled out of a forum of global financial leaders in Hong Kong, it left the marquee event with virtually no female speakers. More than that, it once again highlighted how still very few companies are run by women.

There are only 16 female CEOs in the SP/ASX 200 Index in Australia, a mere 8 per cent. Globally, only 6 per cent of the 1507 firms in the MSCI World Index had female leaders as of the end of November, all according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Boards also need to cast a wider net for potential female appointees. While women hold more seats, a study by the researchers found that’s not matched by an increase in the actual number of females, suggesting the same names sit on multiple boards. And, as much as I hate to say this, do women need to be hungrier to reach the top? Since Sheryl Sandberg’s seminal book almost 10 years ago, the lean-in argument has been shown to be flawed, but perhaps more ambition wouldn’t go astray.

This is out of control. The entitlement of so many groups has reached a new high. Being a middle aged white male is now sexist and racist.

Can we just move on from feminism? After decades and decades of shifting the goal posts it's clear that they can never be pleased. We'd be better off just moving on and finding some real problems to worry about.

How about for the advancement of Australia we just base it on merit. What’s happening now is resulting in sun optimal outcomes

Skills, intelligence, and experience are invaluable elements of success

Should it not be on a value measure of competence regardless of any external physical attribute? If we promote or appoint people on something else than competence this can only damage the companies long term. Sex, sexual preference, religion, ethnicity, race - irrelevant.
