Inflation in food prices is one of the main drivers pushing more people to steal, says Sylvain Charlebois, senior director of the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University in Halifax.
“Theft will cost everyone more because someone has to pay for that food,” he said. “You and I pay for theft.” Metro and Loblaw both declined to comment on the matter, referring The Canadian Press to the Retail Council of Canada. Sobeys did not respond to a request for comment. Kelly said some grocers are struggling to recruit new staff, and when businesses don’t have enough employees to perform physical monitoring, they could be in a vulnerable position.
It's food steal it if you need it! Screw you LoblawsCanada
yeah people what to eat
My wonderful Aunt owned a convenience type store. I was running the til. She had seen this person “stealing” soup. She served this person. Told them she saw what was taken and told them “No one takes soup unless they are hungry”& gave them a $50. Best moment and lesson ever.
Thank the Dictator for that
Gee who would have saw that coming🤦♂️
TrudeausCanada
Go figure! 🤦🏻♀️people who are starving might steal food. However I think equal punishment for equal crimes. Theft is not okay but How much are stores taking advantage?
Put “seconds” and discarded in the back of the store for free.
In 2023 food prices will go up to twice the cost than it is now, shoplifting will go up to 75% percent, overall crime will go up to 80 % and there are only two things to blame! Trudeau 1 and store gouging 2! Get ready for it irs comming in like the ride of global warming is!!
I for one am not big on crime rising by 30 more percent, and shoplifting rising by 40 more percent, because I'd Trudeau, and grocerie stores gouging there buyers! You grocerie store people bring it on yourselves by gouging, and I don't feel any pity for you in anyways!
Well I for one am very surprised
Grocery price are sky high. Eggs and vegetables 30% up.😅😂
