The government initiative hopes to help passengers get to work, school and appointments more cheaply amid 10.1% inflation.

Bus fares are being capped at £2 by 130 operators outside of London to help passengers with the cost of living crisis.

The Department for Transport is funding the £60m scheme, which will put an upper limit on single journeys. Currently the average single bus fare in England costs £2.80 - but can rise to more than £5 in rural areas where services are sparse. Now 130 bus companies, including National Express and Stagecoach, will commit to capping one-way fares at £2. The scheme does not apply to London.Buses minister Richard Holden said:"Brits love buses. They're the most popular form of public transport in England, making up half of all journeys.

Happy with that.

There’s a bus service in my anus

isleofman introduced a £2.00 journey cap at the beginning of November-generally well received

Bet gonortheast arnt doing this recently put prices up most singles just for going a couple of stops are over £2 its disgusting

£2 to travel 2 miles on a recent journey- £4 there and back. Cheaper and quicker to drive- where the incentive? Should be per mile 20p per mile. £2 is fine if it’s a decent distance- it’s a rip off for a short journey

If burnleybuses cap the fares I'll use the x43 into Manchester and go into the office more often. Not prepared to pay £9 per day at the moment, rather WFH until we have fair pricing in Rossendale

Currently £1.65 in London... so are they hiking our rates in the New year?

So being subsidised by the company and will later shoot up in price to save the business.

Too high anyway

ks_1968 Needs to happen in london .

It's a fiver a day in London. That needs to come down by a lot

All over Manchester it's £2 only thing is 0.5 miles is below £2 so pretty much every bus journey is £2

doesn't apply to London but you've used London buses in the photo 😆

I'm West Yorks. £2 to Leeds (£4 return) but £9 return to Harrogate - same distance as Leeds 🤷‍♀️

I wish! I caught the bus the other day. Was running late for a train. ( surprisingly the train was delayed, so i needn't have panicked) anyway it was in Lancashire. It was less than 1 mile. It cost me £3.70! Ridiculous!
