EQS has the chops to go head-to-head with its handful of competitors, including Tesla Model X, our reviewer says.

Impressive all around, and it’s not just the electric factor that separates this from the all-gas GLS, and EQS struck a similar chord but in a far bigger way. Prices start at $105,450 for the EQS450+, a full-size rear-wheel drive dynamo. Add three grand for all-wheel drive or move up to the more powerful EQS 580 4Matic for $127,000.

, but a bit less luxurious than the S-Class gas sedan. Rather, EQS interiors stand out with flashy tech displays. At about 6,000 pounds and almost 17 feet in length, this big SUV isn’t sporty like EQB. Neither is Tesla X. BMW iX holds promise on that front but I haven’t driven one. Still, EQS is a pleasure to drive: smooth, whisper quiet and responsive with rear-axle steering.Exterior design is aerodynamic for such a large vehicle, smooth curves flow rearward from the giant Mercedes star.

Three trim levels are offered: Premium, Exclusive and Pinnacle. Premium offers a ton of fancy features and driver-assistance tech, but given this is a six-figure rig, you may want the works. For starters consider a tablet that docks with the infotainment unit, heated seats for all three rows, massaging seats, five-zone climate control and soothing soundscapes.
