The tribunal said in its ruling that the merger was not likely to result in higher prices for wireless customers and that it was satisfied a plan to sell Shaw’s Freedom Mobile to Quebecor Inc.’s Videotron was adequate to ensure competition isn’t substantially reduced. The bureau had sought to block the merger and in its appeal argues that the tribunal acted outside of its jurisdiction in a “rush to judgment.”

Competition Bureau gets temporary stay of tribunal decision on Rogers-Shaw mergerA Federal Court has issued an emergency stay suspending the Competition Tribunal\u0027s dismissal of the Rogers\u0027s takeover of Shaw. Read on. Mergers do not help consumers or employees. They only reduce competition and increase prices. No one wins except top executives who increase the already bloated salaries. Less choices for employees, less choices for consumers. Look at what mergers has done for medicine. It's okay if members sitting on the CRTC dominate Canadian markets. Looks like the CB is getting a lot of unwanted attention. Their reputation (what little remains that is) is entirely on the line here.
