The retail industry’s own figures on shrink cast doubt on their claim that the problem is ballooning. Researchers say retailers may be blaming theft for losses when they don’t actually know the cause.

Videos of brazen shoplifting incidents, like this one posted to social media in 2021, have turned retail theft into a national issue. Companies say these incidents have led to a spike in merchandise losses, known as shrink. The metric incorporates inventory losses caused by external theft, including organized retail crime, employee theft, human errors, vendor fraud, damaged or mismarked items and other losses.

They have more control over shrink than some of these other forces, retail researchers say. “In an environment where you’re looking for any improvement, shrink becomes an area to attack because of all the other costs rising,” said Ray Wimer, a professor of retail practice at Syracuse University.

Omg, what a bullshit story. EVERY manager I talk to on the East and west coasts say that theft is a massive problem. CNN up to their old tricks again.

Pretty sure California, specifically- L.A. and San. Fran- that have large retail chains such as Walgreens and Target close up shop in certain areas because theft was not being prosecuted and was a daily occurrence.

Businesses will make any excuse to raise prices and increase their profits. Millions of Americans who never learned to think critically will then come to defend their right to do it.

We’ve all seen the videos of mobs of hooligans flash robbing stores. Theft is a problem.

Of course CNN believes theft is just a myth 🤣🤣

I could have told you this years ago. They inflate the numbers. Insurance covers losses. There is no reason to pass the cost onto consumers. It’s an excuse.

I thought it was the mostly peaceful looting

Let me shed some light on this. Self Checkout. you're welcome.

When's the last day y'all will be in the CNN center in Atlanta... It looks like y'all are folding under the weight of your lies and agenda driven media. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

So, CNN says the source of data on inventory shrink is 'Researchers'. How solid.

Why some cars from the 1990s are soaring in value | CNN BusinessNot that long ago, cars from the 1990s were just used cars. And, really, most of them still are, if they're still running at all. But as millenials get older, gain some disposable income, and pine for the cars of their own youth, many of these cars have crossed the threshold to becoming sought after collectibles with rising values in the car collecting world. Oh yeah, a 1986 Toyota… fetch my chequebook Let's not forget, as this article seems to have, that the used car market as a whole has gone through the roof in terms of pricing. Only in the past few months has that begun to turn around, with more to come. Yeah, 300zx, toyota supra, f-bodys, mustangs, m3, m5, zr1 corvette, 3000gt, all cool cars IMO
