Citi has hired 27 interns, 60 per cent women, its most diverse class in its history in Australian investment banking.

Citi has tapped a range of Australian universities to find its latest class of interns amid the global fight for junior talent, and found a diverse group of budding investment bankers.

Diversity extends to where Citi’s Australian interns come from – some have lived in Zimbabwe, Singapore and Malaysia. “To meet and hear stories from people with different backgrounds in Singapore, it is nice to see that reflected [at Citi],” Ms Graham said. She said Angela Do, a relationship manager and vice president in Citi’s corporate bank, had been a mentor during her internship.Damian Young, 22, just wrapped up a rotation in Citi’s real estate team, and now the Sydney University commerce/law student is in the thick of the bank’s advisory team, covering industrials companies.

Thirty students were interviewed in each city, and 12 made it to Citi’s so-called super day: about three hours of one-on-one interviews with managing directors, group activities to determine their interests in banking and extracurriculars, and case studies on recent MIn corporate banking, 350 applications across both cities were whittled down to 12 interviews. Six people made it to super day and two received offers.
