Huynh's mother owns the restaurant with her and spends her time cooking up their Vietnamese dishes in the kitchen. The family-owned restaurant has been here for 13 years. The colorful décor brings some light to the concrete jungle downtown but even those efforts get destroyed. Born and raised in Oakland, every time this happens is another hit to business and their stamina to keep going.
"We cannot live like this," says Soithong. "We might have to close the business, or we might have to go somewhere else."

This same thing happens in small towns all across California. I live next to a meth dealer on Hudson Ave in Nice CA and I see crime daily. California is lawless, thanks to catch and release. I pray whoever votes for Newsom becomes a victim of crime themselves.
Carl Chan president of the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, should get the disgraced $500,000 per year OPD sergeant to resume his foot patrols in Chinatown. That should fix the problem.
The restaurant even advertises itself as being in Chinatown. The eagerness the deceptive SF media shows to attempt to tarnish and fear monger downtown Oakland, is really something.
With downtown SF suffering so much with crime, some in the SF media need to make sure to distort and fear monger downtown Oakland as much as possible so DTO is not seen as an acceptable relocation option out of SF. You can tell this article is designed to fear monger all of DTO.

This is in Chinatown. This is not really “downtown Oakland.”This looks like one of those typical fear mongering attacks by the SF media on Oakland’s economy. They get a couple of disgruntled businesses who’ve been hit by crime and then try to fear monger all of downtown Oakland.
