'After three years of battling increasing costs, decreasing ticket sales and the on-going effects of a global pandemic, we are simply no longer able to make ends meet,' the company's director said.

The Tabard Theatre Company in Downtown San Jose will soon make its final curtain call, the theater's executive artistic director Jonathan Rhys Williams announced.

The 22-year-old theater company will close after it finishes its upcoming production of"Once," a romantic musical set in a pub in Dublin, which will run from March 10 to April 2. Williams said the decision to close comes after the theater company struggled to bring in cash flow during the pandemic. "After three years of battling increasing costs, decreasing ticket sales and the on-going effects of a global pandemic, we are simply no longer able to make ends meet and therefore will be unable to complete the current season," WilliamsThe Tabard Theatre Company was founded in 2001 by Cathy Spielberger Cassetta as a traveling company that performed at venues throughout the Bay Area.

Over the years, the venue has been the official Swing Stage of the San Jose Jazz SummerFest, hosted summer and theater camps for children, and holds more than 150 performances a year, according to Tabard's website. In addition to finishing out its scheduled performance of Once the theater company will be moving forward with any scheduled events and concerts through the end of March.

"Over the 22 year history of this organization, The Tabard Theatre Company has meant so much to many of you as artists, technicians, volunteers, staff, and of course as subscribers, donors and patrons," Williams said."We thank everyone who has supported us over the past two decades, and particularly through this very challenging last three years.
