Homendy announced that the board would hold an investigatory field hearing in the East Palestine area in the spring, in addition to its customary full meeting in Washington, D.C. Releasing publicly a probable cause or causes for the derailment could take 12 to 18 months, Homendy said during Thursday“We are very deliberative. We are the gold standard when it comes to investigations globally, and we are methodical in our approach,” Homendy said. “But if we see a safety issue that we need to be addressed immediately, something systemic, we will not hesitate to issue an urgent safety recommendation.
“We don’t usually have investigative [field] hearings, but we believe that it will be helpful in getting more factual information and getting buy-in on change that will be needed,” Homendy said in an“I think the community deserves to hear some of the answers, and having it there will allow them to see and hear what is being said,” she said.
