The incident occurred about 5 a.m. near Crossroads Parkway and initially forced the closure of all westbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. All lanes have now reopened. The CHP said it could not confirm initial reports that a second vehicle was also traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes at the time of the collision.A second person was transported to a hospital in unknown condition.Traffic was backed up for miles on the westbound side of the freeway as the morning commute got underway. Motorists were being diverted at South Seventh Avenue.
