Chorley kids choose their own playground equipment thanks to £90k investment

Chorley youngsters have been making the most of new play equipment after a popular site was upgraded thanks to a £90,000 investment.

Plans to overhaul Milestone Meadow began last April when Chorley Council launched a consultation to ask local residents what they wanted to see on the playground. Local youngsters asked for the basket swing to be retained and requested a new slide and goalposts. Construction work began in November and Milestone Meadow has this week been re-opened much to the delight of children living in the surrounding area. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday this week involving councillors and pupils from the nearby Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School.Executive Member for Planning and Development, Councillor Alistair Morwood said: “We are delighted to have delivered yet another fantastic facility to the residents of Chorley.

The new equipment includes a climbing frame, slides, swing sets and seesaws. Residents also asked for the play area to see provision made for dog walking and for this to be kept separate to the play space. A brand-new path is due to be installed in the coming weeks. Linked to Chorley Council's green agenda and initiatives to improve biodiversity in the borough, trees have been planted to form an avenue along the boundary of the site and a native hedgerow to add colour, food for birds, nectar for insects and provide a safe visual barrier to guide users up the path rather than cutting up the grass banking.
