More stores now offer customers the option to tip, from coffee shops to ice cream stores

Around 48% of quick-service restaurants like Starbucks, Panera and McDonald’s now give customers the option to tip, according to data released this month from Toast, a restaurant management software company. That’s up from 38% in 2020. But Americans are tipping less. The tipping percentage for quick-service restaurants last quarter was 15.9%, dropping from 16.4% last year. People are tipping less in part because of inflation, experts say.

Adding to the changing dynamics, customers were encouraged to tip generously during the pandemic to help keep restaurants and stores afloat, raising expectations. The shift to digital payments also accelerated during the pandemic, leading stores to replace old-fashioned cash tip jars with tablet touch screens. But these screens and the procedures for digital tipping have proven more intrusive than a low-pressure cash tip jar with a few bucks in it.

I always give them a tip such as 'don't look directly at the sun' or 'brush your teeth before going to bed'. I just like to help people.

It’s garbage

bidenomics has destroyed people and bank accounts

And Pizza places.

Just so they don’t have to pay higher wages 😖

Been like that in canada for years we got corner stores with it too. Like im gonna tip you for my can of pop. Its greedy

YAHHHHHHH FUCKING TIPPPPP ITS NOT DIFFFFUCULLLLT

I don’t tip. Next.

I am tipping less. The more they push it

I've watched it at restaurant and many place in USA. But I'm wondering how much tip American people input to touch panel How much tip does restaurant expect from their customer?

Tipping should be optional; not mandatory.

Shaming people into paying employees' salaries. A disgrace.

Because the economy is in the tank and everyone is broke.

There is tipping (generous) for good service and there is tipping that is a poorly-disguised price hike. Yes to the first and a no to the second. If I refuse to tip for counter service and it feels weird, there are plenty of other shops down the street.

Yeah and it’s annoying

The past few restaurants I’ve been to I received such bad service. The same person taking my orders doesn’t bring my food out and I rarely get asked for refills. I find myself either tipping way less(around 10%) or not at all the past few times I’ve been out.

“No Tip” every time. Employees get above min. Wage per hour, unlike traditional servers, worthy of tips.

It's gone a bit to far now

Just make everything free and only pay tips. This is getting ridiculous.

That is absolutely one hundred percent correct. Some places even ask you if you want to super size it but it's still your choice.

Now some places they include 18% as service fee plus they want you to give tip 😳

Tipping is getting out of control now

I have an idea..... JUST. PAY. STAFF. PROPERLY. TO. BEGIN. WITH.

I don't mind being suggested to tip as long as the suggestion is not actually an undercover demand, kinda like how it happens in the US.

It’s called corporate welfare. Tip the poor peeps so the owners and shareholders still get their greedy cuts.

My friends store he works at has the spin around iPad that asks for a tip. 20% goes to the store FYI.

Sit down in a restaurant, tip. Food delivery, tip. *Picking up* a food order, no tip.

Just like the article stated . Employer pushing paying the employee.....I say it's almost like bullying the customer to tip.. Working people can't tip everything

I don't tip cashiers

Because restaurant owners still pay slave wages.

Other countries don’t tip because they pay their people livable wages. Our government needs to worry about this instead of tik tok

I’ve stopped going to places who ask for a tip.

If I feel the need to tip that's why I carry folding money.

Thats not a good sign. That means they cant pay their employees

CNN's Quest: 'More Banks Are Going to Go out of Business' -- They're 'Stuffed' with Bonds“More banks are going to go out of business. More state and regional banks in the United States will need to be resolved — to use the technical phrase — they’ll be taken over, they’ll be wound up, they’ll be taken into ownership, all sorts of things.” Seeing CNN, 'One World' and Banks Collapsing in the same paragraph makes me think, 'this is their plan to centrally control the money' (and us) via a digital global currency.... Break the banks, bring in the globalist tyrants. Banks fail when democrats are in charge so the CEOs can get their bailouts. Free money opportunities.

Ford to lose $3 billion from EV sales to consumers this year | CNN BusinessFord said it will lose $3 billion on its sales of electric vehicles to consumers this year, but it still expects to hit the profit targets it set for this year of between $9 billion and $11 billion. Oil companies lose on their green energy but make it on hydrocarbons, most autos lose on electric cars but make it on hydrocarbon cars, solar needs gov subsidies. I forget how is banning hydrocarbons going to help beat China unless we go nuclear energy and fast. Most EVs sold in the US are fleet and ride share sales. The public doesn't want them. Government incentives are great for profits.
