The mayor's campaign manager said Ron Nirenberg is raising thousands not necessarily because of perceived competition, but to make sure people know his vision.

The funds are not intended for future campaigns — Campaign Manager James Aldrete said the plan is to spend most of the funds raised on this race. And they aren’t necessarily being raised because of perceived competition. Prop A would decriminalize abortion and marijuana, ban police chokeholds and no-knock warrants and create a city justice director. Nirenberg has expressed concern with the provision that would remove police discretion to make arrests in certain low-level misdemeanor offenses, including theft and graffiti.Most mayoral candidates have raised very little or do not have a finance report yet on the city website.
