The cost of decarbonising air travel is likely to push up ticket prices and put some off flying, a group representing the UK aviation industry says.
It said that sustainable aviation fuel would be a key part of the industry's "journey to net zero", accounting for at least three quarters of the fuel used in UK flights by 2050. Heathrow Airport's director of sustainability Matthew Gorman - who chairs Sustainable Aviation - said this "green premium" will have "some impact on future demand" for air travel.
Up to five new Saf production plants are planned for the UK, with the government investing in their development.

Greener flights will only appear to cost more because the costs of externalities are not factored in
so their advice is: kill the planet guys if you want a cheap holiday. Right?
Kind of misses the obvious flight demand needs to fall to achieve climate targets (as CarbonBrief, theCCCuk) so price rise not a bad thing, and recent research suggests SAF requires too much land & power etc. So I guess more detailed and in depth reporting would be good.
If decarbonisation will drive up flight costs, why did we vote to get our goods flown in from far flung places across the globe rather than by the 21-mile rail journey to the EU market. Guess what will happen to the price of our consumables?

IMO: 1. Keep it cheap for anyone's first outgoing+return flights per year. 2. Additional green charges on any flights after that. It seems sensible to me that those who do the most flying should bear the most responsibility.
