A Rancho Cucamonga man has been charged with stealing sensitive software from two Southern California companies and using it to market his competitive company to work with Chinese businesses, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Tuesday, May 16. The technology can be used in sensitive manufacturing and military applications.
Between 1996 and 2019, Li had been working at the two U.S. technology companies working on software development and engineering, according to the affidavit. In 2019, the second company tipped off the FBI after it discovered Li had been downloading software into a folder called “China Government” on his personal hard drive, the affidavit said.
