Ford's hybrid hype runs counter to recent messaging from the Detroit automakers, which have touted the performance and popularity of all-electric favorites.

The truck is available with three levels of electrical output depending on engine choice."We're seeing a lot of customers like that combination of using the batteries for something beyond just moving the vehicle," Farley said. "And so we're just listening to the market.
