An Optus spokesperson confirmed it would make employees redundant but didn't clarify how many staff."Optus continually evaluates our organisational structure to ensure it is the right one for meeting our customers' needs," the spokesperson said.

"We have recently undertaken a review and taken steps to simplify our business while still investing in those areas we know matter to our customers."This has been a challenging decision to make but necessary to strengthen our business."The spokesperson said Optus will look to redeploy some of the workers made redundant.

The company also confirmed that it is maintaining an "onshore footprint" for its call centres as well as having operations overseas.
