'Customers tell me that they hear more Welsh spoken than they do in places such as Wrexham or Welshpool.'

More Welsh is heard in a small market town in England than in some places in Wales, according to locals.

The market town, known for its street markets and independent shops, sits just over the border and still has Welsh churches, a thriving Welsh language bookshop and the only Cylch Meithrin - Welsh language nursery - outside of Wales. Lowri Roberts runs a Welsh shop, Siop Cwlwm, in the heart of Oswestry. She told North Wales Live: "Customers tell me that they hear more Welsh spoken in Oswestry than they do in places such as Wrexham or Welshpool.

"We outgrew the market and now we've expanded onto Bailey Street. Unfortunately we lost my mother this year but the business is continuing the way we wanted it to."
