MOUNT PEARL, N.L. — Hailing from Nunavut and now a resident of Mount Pearl, Donna Lyell says she is stitching her heritage into every creation.

"Because I was older and had the basics, it was easier for us to connect and learn from each other," said Lyell."She is 80 now, and we still sew together." These mittens, captured in the midst of creation, showcase the meticulous craftsmanship behind Donna Lyell's seal skin designs. - Contributed. - ContributedWhat began as a pastime and a way to connect with her roots, she says soon transformed into a business.

On top of starting her business, she also became a mother. Lyell says she managed to balance her roles as a working seamstress and a new mom.
