Affirm Holdings will have a lot to prove to Wall Street when it reports its fiscal first-quarter earnings results after Wednesday’s market close.
Analysts remain bearish on Affirm’s stock, with only four of the 18 analysts surveyed by FactSet rating shares the equivalent of a Buy. Eight have a Hold rating on shares, while six have a Sell rating. The average price target on shares is $16.53—down 21% from recent trading levels. This earnings cycle isn’t just about Affirm meeting expectations, it’s also about proving to Wall Street that the company’s business model of offering loans—often with no interest or fees—can thrive in an environment in which funding costs are higher and consumers are feeling their wallets are strained.
