Calling Chard: asparagus and leek risotto with chicken | SaltWireWhen Peter Byrne's great-grandfather, E.W. Gaze, opened Gaze Seed Company in 1925, it was the only seed company in N.L.

Gaze passed away in the 1960s, years before Byrne was born. Most of his memories were with his great-grandmother, Patricia Gaze. "My great-grandmother kept busy, she didn't want us to be a seasonal business, she wanted us to be a year-round operation," said Byrne. "I had to make it so there was something there, something that people would want to come for," said Byrne. The company has now grown and expanded its product range, offering over 400 different types of flower, vegetable, and herb seeds.“I hired DC Design House to help me rebrand to The Seed Company. So, we did that with the help of DC's assistant, Jackson. Jackson rebranded the company for me and we took steps and advice from him.

In adapting to the times, the company began offering online pre-orders for seeds, bulbs, and roots, which has contributed to the business's recent success, said McLean.
